Bromley Bids Fond Farewell to Byron Webster After Historic League Two Promotion
Bromley Football Club has announced the departure of experienced defender Byron Webster following their momentous promotion to League Two. Webster, a vital presence on and off the pitch, leaves Hayes Lane having played a significant role in the Ravens' most successful season to date.
The joy of securing promotion to League Two is still palpable around Hayes Lane, but today brings a touch of bittersweet news for Bromley fans. Our dependable centre-half, Byron Webster, has announced he will be departing the club, drawing a close to his impactful spell with the Ravens. Webster's exit comes at a significant juncture, as the club prepares for its historic foray into the English Football League, leaving a void that will undoubtedly be felt.
Since joining the club, Byron has been an absolute rock at the heart of our defence. His experience, leadership, and calm demeanour were invaluable, particularly during the intense pressure of a promotion push. This past season, as we battled through the National League and ultimately triumphed in the play-offs, Webster was a constant, commanding presence. He wasn't just a physical force; his ability to read the game, organise the backline, and make crucial clearances was a cornerstone of our defensive solidity. He consistently put in top-tier performances, marshalling opposition forwards and ensuring our goalkeeper, Grant Smith, had a strong barrier in front of him. His contributions were instrumental in achieving our long-held EFL dream, and every tackle, header, and interception will be remembered fondly by the Hayes Lane faithful.
Beyond his undeniable talent on the pitch, Byron brought a wealth of professional experience to the dressing room. Having played at higher levels with clubs like Carlisle United, he served as a mentor to many of our younger players, guiding them with his knowledge and professionalism. His influence extended far beyond the ninety minutes, helping to cultivate the winning mentality that ultimately propelled us to League Two. Webster embodied the fighting spirit and determination that defines Bromley FC, and his presence will be missed in the changing rooms as much as on the pitch. While it's sad to see such a dedicated servant move on, the timing feels right for both parties as the club embarks on a new chapter.
We extend our sincere gratitude to Byron Webster for his immense contributions to Bromley Football Club, especially for being such a crucial part of the squad that delivered our incredible promotion. He leaves us as a legend, etched into the club's history books. Everyone at Hayes Lane wishes Byron nothing but the very best for his future endeavours, whether that involves continuing his playing career elsewhere or embarking on a new path. Thank you, Webby, for everything. You'll always be a Raven.
